An incomplete cast copper-alloy combination padlock dating to the Post-Medieval period, c. 1550-1650. The object consists a trefoil shaped hasp (one side missing in an old break) that holds together six rotatable discs on a cylindrical axis bar. The edges of the discs themselves are each engraved with a series of letters, just as on a modern combination padlock. Condition: fair, some wear to discs. Length: 30mm. Width: 27mm. An uncommon type of object. Provenance: from the collection of a metal detectorist.
