Beschreibung:

An incomplete cast copper-alloy and enamel Early Anglo-Saxon hanging bowl mount of probable 6th or 7th century date. The mount was originally circular in plan, its edges now broken in several places. The back of the mount is plain, while on its front face an intricate geometric pattern can be observed-the latter formed by means of radiating oval motifs that form a series of repeating interlinked flower motifs. Traces of black and red enamel are visible in the recesses of some, though most has degraded and is now missing. Condition: fair, patina rather patchy in places. Diameter: c. 39mm. Discussion: such mounts were utilised to decorate the handle attachments of hanging bowls, usually applied and attached by the means of solder. Provenance: found Preston Capes, Northamptonshire, 2012. Recorded on the PAS as BH-293083.
