AN INSIDE-PAINTED ROCK-CRYSTAL SNUFF BOTTLEZhou Leyuan, cyclically dated to the Wuzi year corresponding to 1888 and of the period
Of elegant pear-shape rising from a short oval foot to a tall cylindrical neck, finely painted with riverscape scene depicting two scholars gazing at the landscape as a fisherman crosses the stream with a sampan, signature and seal of the artist reading Yin, stopper. 6.3cm (2 1/2in) high. The founder of the popular Beijing school of painting, Zhou Leyuan's career spanned the period 1881 to 1893. Every single artist of the first phase of the school owed a considerable debt to Zhou.
