APROSIO, Angelico (1607-1681)] 'Giovanni Pietro Villani'. La visiera alzata. Hecatoste di Scittori, che vaghi d'audare in Maschera fuor del tempo di Carnovale sono scoperti da Gio: Pietro Giacomo Villani. Parma: heirs of Vigna, 1689. 12 o (153 x 85 mm). Woodcut tailpiece and decorative initial. Contemporary vellum over pasteboard, lettered in manuscript on spine, contained in 20th-century red morocco-backed cloth box. Provenance : Prospero Mandosi (signature and extensive inscription including a note of the gift of the book from the dedicatee Antonio Magliabechi); Renato Rabiotti (book label). First edition of a fundamental work on 17th-century pseudonyms and a source for all later bibliographies on the subject: Melzi used it extensively. A fine copy with an interesting provenance: presented by the dedicatee Magliabechi (the famous polyglot librarian to Grand-Duke Cosimo III of Tuscany) to Prospero Mandosi (1650-1709), author of Bibliotheca Romana (Rome: 1682-1692, 2 vols.).
