AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION – SCIENCE. Letters and manuscripts of prominent men of science, 19th century, with correspondents including: William HERSCHEL (1738-1822). Autograph note, George Inn, 20 July 1809, 'Dr Herschel will be very happy to see Mr Strutt', accepting an invitation on behalf of himself and his household, one page , 8vo ; Thomas BEDDOES (1760-1808). Autograph letter signed ('Thomas Beddoes') upon a pamphlet ( Lectures on the Laws of Animal Nature , printed by Biggs & Cottle), n.p., 10 March 1800, 'I am quite persuaded that Dr Brown's & Dr Darwin's propositions on stimulation are by no means laws of nature – The facts they build upon are true but these philosophers have generalized too much', 4to ; Henry HALFORD (1766-1844), Astley COOPER (1768-1841) and Benjamin BRODIE (1783-1862). Manuscript signed ('Henry Halford', 'Astley Cooper', and 'B C Brodie'), 22 June 1831, recommendations of a sub-committee 'appointed to consider some points relative to the establishment of the King's College school of Medicine & Surgery' including a curator of the Anatomical Museum and suggestions relating payment for lectures, two pages , 4to ; Marc Isambard BRUNEL (1769-1849). Brunel'), 53 Parliament Street, 19 June 1834, asking Edward Strutt MP to meet a Robert Inglis 'who has taken a very active part in promoting the interests of our Enterprise, the Thames Tunnel', one page, 4to ; Michael FARADAY (1791-1867). Autograph letter signed ('M. Faraday') to [William] Wyon, R[oyal] Institution, 30 September 1834, 'That great and excellent French philosopher M Arago is in town and desirous of seeing the Mint', 1 ½ pages, 8vo ; John HERSCHEL (1792-1871). Autograph letter signed ('J.F.W Herschel'), Collingwood, 31 August 1862, on 'the Order of the Garter you are pleased to confer on me' and his own understanding of the phrase 'Honi soit qui mal y pense', 1 ½ pages , 8vo (small tear to bottom, loss to integral blank); Herbert MAYO (1796-1852). Autograph letter signed ('Herbert Mayo'), 19 George Street, 27 June 1831, discussing revisions to a publication, 3 pages, 8vo ; along with James Rennie, Charles Lyell, J.S.
