AUTOGRAPHS -- DELARUE, Th. Isographie des hommes célébres. Ou collection de fac-simile de lettres autographes et de signatures. Exécutée & imprimée par Th. Delarue sous les auspices de MM. Bérard, De Chateaugiron, Duchesne, Tremisot, et Berthier. Paris, 1843. 4 volumes, 2 o (307 x 235 mm). Lithographed throughout by Delarue, 1,029 autograph facsimiles. Contemporary cloth, black morocco lettering-piece to spine. The second, improved, edition of this celebrated collection of facsimiles, which though lithographic reproductions, are remarkable for their faithfulness, and which for many years was the principal tool for the student of autographs, remaining invaluable to the present day. The first edition appeared in 1828 to 1830. This had a supplement in smaller size which was then incorporated into the above edition. In 1877, thirty-four years after the publication of the second edition, Itienne Charavay published a further supplement. Mecklenburg, p. 150. [ With: ] GEIGY-HAGENBACH, Karl (1965-1949). Album von Handschriften berühmter Persönlichkeiten vom Mittelalter bis zur Neuzeit. Basel, 1925. 2 o (312 x 222mm). Circa 1,300 facsimile illustrations. Contemporary cloth-backed marbled boards (extremities rubbed). An indispensable work for the identification of autographs by the Swiss collector, largely based on his own collection. Inserted is a facsimile of a letter from Martin Luther to Georg Spalatin (1530) in the collection of Baron Ferdinand von Neufforge, one of 150 copies privately printed for the Berlin Bibliophiles, 1957, 4 o, 2 ff. GEIGY-HAGENBACH. Autographen aus der Sammlung Karl Geigy-Hagenbach, Basel, und anderem Besitz. Auktion. Basel: 1961. 4 o. 54 plates, numerous illustrations. Original wrappers. Provenance : B.H. Breslauer (most prices and buyer's names). The Swiss collector Geigy-Hagenbach, head of the celebrated pharmaceutical firm Geigy, brought together, during sixty years, one of the greatest collections of autographs; he left two-thirds of it to Basel University Library, the remaining third was sold through the above catalogue in Marburg.
