The second, improved, edition of this celebrated collection of facsimiles, which though lithographic reproductions, are remarkable for their faithfulness, and which for many years was the principal tool for the student of autographs, remaining invaluable to the present day. The first edition appeared in 1828 to 1830. This had a supplement in smaller size which was then incorporated into the above edition. The Swiss collector Geigy-Hagenbach, head of the celebrated pharmaceutical firm Geigy, brought together, during sixty years, one of the greatest collections of autographs; he left two-thirds of it to Basel University Library, the remaining third was sold through the above catalogue in Marburg.
