Alexander, 7 aquatint, stipple-engraved or line-engraved plates (4 hand-colored). (Spotting to a few leaves.) Contemporary English mottled calf gilt, shaped central inlay of lighter marbled calf gilt (rebacked). Provenance : Thomas Grimston Estcourt (bookplate). FIRST EDITION. "Barrow, like William Alexander was in the suite of the Earl of MacCartney's embassy of 1792 to the Emperor of China. The expedition provided the material for a number of interesting works on China, of which the above book and Alexander's The Costume of China... are notable examples" (Abbey).
