Belgian Stained Wood Dining Table Attributed to Jan Vlug, mid-20th century Height 29 1/4 inches, diameter 59 inches. Provenance: Axel Vervoordt circa 2005. Jan Vlug (1917-1999) was a Dutch art historian and designer who served as Dutch Cultural Intelligence Officer for the Art Looting Investigation Unit for the American Army after World War II, and was responsible for helping to return looted Nazi art to Dutch nationals. In the 1950s he moved to Brussels and met Jules Wabbes with whom he designed furniture. The design of this table is considered reflective of their shared design sensibilites.
