FIRST EDITION, Republican issue with Walton's thanks to Cromwell for having waived customs duties on the imported paper. This is the fourth of the great Polyglots and, while being less elegant than its predecessors, is the most accurate and with the addition of Persian and Ethiopic to the usual Samaritan, Hebrew, Greek, Syriac, Arabic, Chaldaean and Latin. The editor was Brian Walton, made Bishop of Chester by Charles II in 1660, who called upon for assistance the considerable talents of, inter alios , James Ussher, Robert Sanderson Henry Hammond, Edward Pococke, John Greaves and Edmund Castell. Second edition of Castell's celebrated dictionary (Hebrew, Samaritan, Chaldaean, Ethiopic, Syriac, Arabic and Persian) designed, as the title tells us, as a companion work for Walton's Polyglot.
