"There are 17 full-page woodcuts freely adapted from the Lubeck edition (in Latin, 1492), some of which are made up of small blocks and with type introduced. These are reminiscent of Dürer's style, and have been assigned to him, but there seem to be no good reason for the attribution... the crucifixion is quite XV. century style, but not by Wolgemut. The remaining cuts are by a younger Nuremberg artist, influenced by Schongauer, and possibly by Dürer himself" (Murray p. 130, teilw. nach Dodgson). Meder folgt für die Kreuzigung einer Zuschreibung an Lucas Cranach Schoch-Mende weist alle Holzschnitte den angezweifelten Werken Dürers zu. - Breitrandig (Papiergröße 31:21,5 cm). Teilweise etwas gebräunt, erste Bll. etwas fleckig bzw. fingerfleckig, zu Beginn u. am Schluß mit Wasserflecken in den Innenecken; die ersten 4 Bll. mit einigen Wurmspuren, ab Bl. g3 mit wenigen einzelnen Wurmlöchern, gegen Ende zunehmend; fehlt Blatt 3 mit den beiden ganzseitigen Wappenholzschnitten. Bridget's writings can be divided into two groups: those that preach an improvement of human life through divine instruction, and those that contain disturbing prophecies of divine chastisement. Both groups attained great popularity during the fifteenth and the early sixteenth centuries, and in particular the latter group contributed significantly to the ferment that led to the Reformation. - Wide margined copy. Faint browning, slight staining or fingerstaining to first leaves, some waterstaining to inner corners of first and last gatherings. Little worming to first 4 leaves and from leaf g3 to end; lacking leaf 3 with the 2 coat-of-arms woodcuts. Bound in 20th cent. full calf on wooden boards, with remnants of the contemp. blindstamped leather mounted to boards, somewhat rubbed.
