Provenance : sale Sotheby's, London, 11 June 2002 lot 76, sold £24,000. a fine letter which indicates that bolivar was perhaps trying to promote a war between his enemy spain and the united states. This letter was sent to Bolivar's Trinidadian friend Guillermo White, whilst Bolivar was in Venezuela preparing to launch the campaign to liberate Columbia. He notes that he has heard from Admiral Luis Brion (1782-1821) who had returned to Isla de Margarita in Venezuela to look over the ports, probably in preparation for the 1819 expedition which attacked the coast of New Grenada. Bolivar goes on too note (in Spanish) that “The war between the United States and Spain will complete the work of our Independence.
