Die Bildkomposition und auch die Gesichtszüge der Madonna weisen Bezüge zu dem künstlerischen Werk Annibale Carraccis (1560 - 1609) auf. Dies legt nahe, dass die Pietà im emilianischen Carracci-Umkreis entstand.
