BONAPARTE, Charles Lucien Jules Laurent (1803-1857). Iconografia della fauna Italica per le quattro classi degli animali vertebrati. Tomo I. Mammiferi e uccelli . Rome: Tipografia Salviucci, 1832-1841. Volume I only (of 3), 2 (375 x 264mm). 47 hand-coloured lithographic plates only by Battistelli after C. Ruspi, P. Quattrocchi and A. Capalti. (Lacking one plate of birds and 2 leaves of text, several plates of mammals and one of birds slightly stained at blank margin, light spotting and occasional marginal soiling to a few plates.) Contemporary green half calf, gilt spine compartments with red calf lettering-pieces, marbled edges (corners slightly worn). Provenance : Frederick du Cane Godman (bookplate). The complete work was published in 30 parts, comprising 3 volumes with a total of 180 plates. Volume I included the ornithological section. This copy comprises 24 plates of small mammals, and 23 (of 24) plates of birds after Petrus Quattrocchi and Carolus Ruspi. Anker 48; Fine Bird Books p. 60; Nissen IVB 118; Wood p. 248; Zimmer p. 66.
