(Books & Works on Paper including Aviation & Transport, 31st July 2020) Bible, English Bible, English The Byble, that is to saye, all the holye Scripture…, 5 parts in one, Old Testament parts 2 and 3, New Testament and Apocrypha have divisional titles and separate foliation; NT and Apocrypha titles within wide woodcut historiated borders depicting scenes in connection with the text, that before the N.T. shows at the foot Henry VIII presenting a copy of the Bible to the Bishops, black letter, double column, woodcut floriated initials, lacking A1-6, *1-2, t2, Qqi4, 7-8, Sss, & T1, 5-6, repairs to first 2 leaves, e8 reinforced at gutter, tear to inner margin of L8, h2 tear, o7-8 small burn holes, t1 hole with loss of text, Ff8 & Yy8 small tears at corner, Zz8 right margin trimmed with partial loss of side notes, Q1, 5 chipped, Sss4 and following reinforced to right margins, a few headlines and side notes just shaved in places, dust soiling and some spotting or marking, light occasional waterstaining, light browning, occasional marginalia, ownership inscription of Elizabeth Loyd , 19th century vellum boards, spine tooled in gilt with Tudors’ arms, a.e.r., a little soiled, new marbled endpapers, [ESTC S123035; STC (2nd ed.), 2084; Darlow & Moule (Rev. 1968), 92C; Herbert 92], folio, Nicolas Hyll, 1551. *** The fourth edition of 'Matthew' Bible version (i.e. the translation of William Tyndale edited by John Rogers , revised by Richard Taverner, further revised by Edmund Becke, who edited the whole. First published in 1537, this version "welds together the best work of Tyndale and Coverdale, [and] is generally considered to be the real primary version of our English Bible" (Herbert).
