"I am just returned to this place after an absence of some time in Norfolk. I hasten to acknowledge the receipt of the beautiful edition of your late father's poems [ Poems and Songs , ed. by Peter Cunningham, 1847] which you sent me. It was good of you to remember his old friend. I often think of Allan!..." -- Autograph letter signed to "Dear Miss Brightwell" (perhaps Cecilia Lucy Brightwell 1811-1875, who published a biography of Amelia Opie in 1854), Oulton, Lowestoft, 28 September n.y. 1 page, 8vo, backed . "Owing perhaps to the state of the weather for some days past which has prevented me taking exercise I have been far from well...unable to write...I thank you heartily for your letter and am always glad to hear from you. I thought by this time you have known me better than to think otherwise. With respect to what occurred...as relative to your note I have only to say that the reproof of the wise is better than the commendation of the fool ..." Borrow letters are very uncommon.
