GORDON, CHARLES GEORGE AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED, ("CG GORDON"), TO CARL GEIGLER ("MY DEAR GEIGLER") discussing his wishes to erect a telegraph line from the Wadi Halfa telegraph station to the Railway station at Wadi Halfa ("...I wish (provided you see no objection technically) to put a Branch line of telegraph from the present Wadi Halfa telegraph station to viz a viz to the Railway station at Wadi Halfa..."), 2 pages, 8vo, 29 August 1878, autograph envelope Charles George Gordon (1833-1885) was appointed Governor-General of the Sudan by the Khedive of Egypt in 1877. His primary purpose when accepting the post was to supress the slave trade, which he set about with typical zeal and panache, but he also engaged in other reforms such as developing communications.
