De Bello Gallico, in English]. The eyght bookes… conteyning his martial exploytes in the Realme of Gallia… translated oute of latin into English by Arthur Goldinge .
London: William Seres, 1565. 8vo (135 x 90 mm). Black letter, woodcut title border, woodcut & metalcut initials. Last two quires (10 leaves), containing "An Exposition of the old names" and colophon, misbound between prelims and text. Late 19th-century calf, spine gilt with red morocco lettering-piece (rebacked preserving backstrip). Condition : Marginal restorations to title-leaf, slightly affecting woodcut border, touched up in skillful facsimile, and to last 3 leaves (misbound at front), a few other small marginal repairs, occasional minor marginal foxing. first complete edition in english of caesar's commentaries on the gallic wars . Book 8 is an addition by Aulus Hirtius, one of Caesar's legates. This copy with first setting of the colophon. Pforzheimer 410; STC 4335; ESTC online S10712.
