CARTA EXECUTORIA DE HIDALGUIA, issued by Philip II, King of Spain in favour of Diego Perez de Godoy and his four children. ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. Granada, 3 April 1594. 297 x 210mm, 62 leaves, including first and final blanks (the last a paste-down), 34 lines, written in brown ink in a gothic rotunda, 13 large 9-line illuminated initials and ONE HISTORIATED INITIAL with the King's portrait (on f.57), 2 FULL-PAGE MINIATURES (on f.2v and f.3). The first showing the grantee (his face somewhat smudged) below a fine half-page miniature of the Annunciation, within a border of naturalistic flowers and birds, with medallions of St.Francis, John the Baptist, John the Evangelist and St.Philip, on gold ground. The facing miniature in two compartments shows St.James in armour on a white horse slaying two moors, below is the coat of arms of Perez de Godoy, within a border of flowers on gold ground. Granada, 1670. 298 x 208mm, 79 leaves, including final 6 blanks, each page encadrée, 45 large illuminated initials, HISTORIATED INITIAL CONTAINING A PORTRAIT OF PHILIP II, HALF-PAGE MINIATURE OF CHARLES II AS A BOY-KING AND 3 FULL-PAGE MINIATURES, depicting f.2. the Daza de Torres family praying below the consecrated Host; f.3v.
