CARTA EXECUTORIA DE HIDALGUIA, issued by Philip II, King of Spain in favour of Diego Perez de Godoy and his four children. ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. Granada, 3 April 1594. 297 x 210mm, 62 leaves, including first and final blanks (the last a paste-down), 34 lines, written in brown ink in a gothic rotunda, 13 large 9-line illuminated initials and ONE HISTORIATED INITIAL with the King's portrait (on f.57), 2 FULL-PAGE MINIATURES (on f.2v and f.3). The first showing the grantee (his face somewhat smudged) below a fine half-page miniature of the Annunciation, within a border of naturalistic flowers and birds, with medallions of St.Francis, John the Baptist, John the Evangelist and St.Philip, on gold ground. The facing miniature in two compartments shows St.James in armour on a white horse slaying two moors, below is the coat of arms of Perez de Godoy, within a border of flowers on gold ground. Contemporary panelled calf gilt (worn, ties lacking) CARTA EXECUTORIA DE HIDALGUIA, issued by Charles II, King of Spain, in favour of Don Thomas Daza de Torres y Rincon. ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. Granada, 1670. 298 x 208mm, 79 leaves, including final 6 blanks, each page encadrée, 45 large illuminated initials, HISTORIATED INITIAL CONTAINING A PORTRAIT OF PHILIP II, HALF-PAGE MINIATURE OF CHARLES II AS A BOY-KING AND 3 FULL-PAGE MINIATURES, depicting f.2. the Daza de Torres family praying below the consecrated Host; f.3v. The tomb of Fernandez Daza, from his body rising a genealogical tree; f.3. the arms of the Daza family. Contemporary green velvet over paper boards (slightly worn, ties lacking), silk doublures (2)
