(Without the Carte très curieuse , some light spotting and browning, heavier in volume VII, several plates with small marginal tears.) Uniformly bound in contemporary mottled calf, spine gilt, morocco lettering-pieces, red edges (several minor splits at joints, extremities rubbed, corners bumped). A COMPLETE SET OF CHATELAIN'S ATLAS HISTORIQUE . First edition of volumes IV to VII, second edition of volumes II and III, third edition of volume I. The Atlas Historique was an ambitious work, covering a range of subjects including genealogy, cosmography, topography, heraldry and chronology. It was first published in Amsterdam in 1705-20, with a second edition published in 1732. The text was compiled by Gueudeville and Garillon with a supplement by H.P. de Limiers and the maps by Chatelain (many based on Guillaume de l'Isle .
