(Small and light waterstain in lower margin of half-title and all plates, small circular stain in lower margin of p.191.) Blue morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, single gilt fillet border on sides, spine ruled and lettered in gilt, top edges gilt. Provenance : Sir Edward Howard Marsh (1872-1953) -- bequeathed to his protégé and biographer Chistopher Hassall (1912-1963) (letter of provenance by Betram Rota). FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY FROM CHURCHILL TO SIR EDWARD MARSH, inscribed on half-title: 'To Eddie from Winston October 1937'. During the years Churchill was in office, Sir Edward Marsh, or Eddie Marsh, was Churchill's private secretary and right hand. Woods A43(a).
