Original purple cloth, spine and upper cover stamped in gilt, publisher's device in blind on upper cover (spine faded, light dampstaining on spine, some spotting and foxing on preliminary leaves). Provenance : Stanley Baldwin (1867-1947) (inscprition). FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, signed and inscribed "To Stanley Baldwin from Winston S. Churchill, Oct. 14, 1930." A powerful association of the two great Tory Prime Ministers. Churchill served as Baldwin's Chancellor of the Exchequer in the second of Baldwin's three terms at 10 Downing St. During Baldwin's third premiership between 1935-1937, Churchill attacked him in the Commons for failing to adequately meet the threat of rising German power.
