Churchill'), also signed by Stanley Baldwin, 15 April [1929], a splendid, large image of the prime minister and his chancellor of the exchequer in conversation at the Cabinet table, Churchill with cigar in hand, 276 x 363mm, laid onto card, 375 x 465mm. Provenance : by descent from Stanley Baldwin; Sotheby's, 19 July 1994, lot 299.

Provenance : by descent from Stanley Baldwin; Sotheby's, 19 July 1994, lot 299. The photograph is taken barely a month before the general election, which, with the Labour Party emerging for the first time as the largest parliamentary party, was to signal the beginning of Churchill's wilderness years.
