with Whitney's name penciled twice over the advertising card of photographer Isaac H. Dupee, Camp Abraham Lincoln used as backing. A sunny group shot of four soldier-pards who recorded their association sometime, presumably, early in the war. Surprisingly, little concrete information on the illusive camp could be found. Several Camp Lincoln's existed during the Civil War including one in Springfield, Illinois and another that was Headquarters for the Army of the Potomac in 1862, but we cannot say which camp hosted the army photographer named Isaac Dupee. At least twenty-five "W.H. Whitney's" are listed in the database making the name far too common to help in tracking the young soldiers. Additional information has been kindly provided to us regarding the photographer, Isaac Dupee. Dupee was listed as a daguerreian and dealer in daguerreian supplies, Granite Hall, Water Street, Augusta, Maine, 1855, 1856. He was also listed as a daguerreian in Bath, Maine in 1855 and 1856, and was noted in Bangor, Maine, dates unknown. In 1859, 1860 he was listed as a daguerreotypist in Portland, Maine, at 130 and 134 Middle Street, at the old stand of J.W.C. Morrison. Condition: Varnished plate is EXC with good clarity housed in a complete composition case.
