Collection of leaves from early medieval manuscripts, one with a drawing of St. Mark the Evangelist, in Latin, on vellum [twelfth century] 3 substantial fragments of leaves: (a) upper corner of a leaf from a Lectionary, 260mm. by 135mm., with remains of 21 lines in 2 sizes of a rounded early gothic bookhand in brown ink, without biting curves and with a pronounced ct-ligature, red rubric and a single line of tall ornamental capitals touched in green wash, large figure of a bearded saint standing half in the margin and half within the text column and gesturing at his text, dressed in pale green robes edged in red pen and richly hemmed with gems at his neck and sleeves, the fine drapery of his clothes under his cloak picked out by long parallel straight lines coloured in blue, recovered from a binding with scuffs and slight water damage, affecting portrait of saint by causing flaking and erasures in places, verso quite legible, overall fair condition, Germany, first half of twelfth century; (b) large part of a leaf from a glossed copy of Deuteronomy 24, 280mm. by 180mm., remains of 25 lines in a tall rectangular bookhand, encased on two remaining sides with margins in gloss in smaller script, red versal numbers and small initials, stained and cockled, Germany, twelfth century; (c) central part of a leaf from Augustine, De Civitate Dei, book XXII, 330mm. by 225mm., double column, remains of 34 lines, edges trimmed and wanting characters on three sides, stains and some slight worm, Italy, mid-twelfth century; all recovered from bindings
