DALI, SALVADOR] SANDOZ, MAURICE. On the Verge . New York: Doubleday & Company, 1950. First trade edition, a presentation copy inscribed in French by Dali to John Perona on the half-title, written in blue-black ink, signed and dated 1951, the front free endpaper with a full page drawing rendered in the same ink, of a nude figure holding an ant-covered rock, signed and dated the same year. Publisher's red cloth lettered in gray. 10 x 7 inches (25 x 17.5 cm); 127 pp., illustrated throughout by Dali in black and white. Slight soiling to binding, spine lightly sunned. The full-page drawing is intricate, and is of very high quality. The inscription (which also includes drawn elements) is to John Perona, proprietor of the legendary nightclub El Morocco, at which Dali was a frequent guest. It reads "Pour John/Perona/qui choisi toujour/le tableaux que/j'aime le plus/avec l'Amitie/Mediterraneene de/Salvador Dali/1951." C El Morocco: The John Perona Collection
