A Voyage Round the World; but More Particularly to the North-West Coast of America: Performed in 1785, 1786, 1787, and 1788, in the King George and Queen Charlotte, Captains Portlock and Dixon. London: George Goulding, 1789. 4to (273 x 215 mm). [xxxii], 360; 47 pp. Large folding map, 21 engraved maps and plates, 7 of which are folding. Period tree calf, rebacked, spine gilt. Short tear and some creasing to large map, occasional spots, offset from some plates, tear in gutter of iii/iv, horizontal tear to xi/xii, f.f.e.p. and half-title mostly detached, ownership stamp to title, boards worn. Provenance: Anthropologist Franz Boas [1858-1942] (bookplate). FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, WITH AN INTERESTING ASSOCIATION. An Expedition to establish a fur trade in North America. Dixon completed a more detailed map of the Northwest American coast than that of Cook. The Queen Charlotte visited Hawaii three times and the narrative includes much of interest on the chiefs and political atmosphere of the period.
