Carroll gave this presentation copy to "Christie" Taylor probably on the occasion of his visit to Guilford, were he photographed her on Sep. 3. 1869, shortly after the publication in July. The second foreign-language edition of Alice (preceded by the German translation earlier the same year), Williams-Madan-Green-Crutch 73.
