London: Taylor and Francis for the author, 1871-1881. 8 volumes (lacking the supplement), 4° (319 x 245mm). 631 (of 633) lithographic plates, all but two hand-coloured, and one unlisted plate, after J.G. Keulemans, Joseph Wolf and E. Neale, the colouring by Smith and W. Hart Preface to vols. I-V and four further subscribers' lists bound at end of vol. I with original wrapper to parts 59 and 60. (Some persistent spotting to plates and text, some corners creased.) 20th-century green half morocco, spines gilt, original front wrapper to each vol. bound in, top edge gilt (light scuff marks). Provenance : William Henry Smith (1825-1891, bookplate; subscriber).

VIII; the omission seems accidental since it is referred to in the text. The two missing plates are Cyanopica Cooki (pl. 259, also lacking in Zimmer's set) in vol.
