This photograph is included in Ruscha's series Three Palm Trees as well as his book A Few Palm Trees, both made in 1971. A variant of Palm Tree #1, which is in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art (2004.586), reveals that Ruscha took this photograph from the south side of Chula Vista Way between Bronson and Tamarind Avenues in Hollywood.
