Egypt—Frank Mason Good Selected photographs of the Nile and its scenery, including some of its most ancient and interesting Temples &c. &c. London: A. Shapcott, n.d. [1874] FIRST EDITION, oblong 8vo (177 x 270mm.), pictorial lithographed title, 20 original photographs mounted on beige surrounds, printed captions beneath image, tissue guards, gilt edges, original red cloth decorated in gilt and blind, binding somewhat soiled, upper cover and spine faded RARE. Not located in COPAC or OCLC. A fine photobook showing famous sites from Upper Egypt, including Denderah, Medinet Haboo, Karnak, Philea and Luxor, many with local inhabitants in the foreground. Frank Mason Good (1839-1928), is best known for his series of views of the Middle East taken on four separate tours of the area in the 1860s and 1870s. He first travelled to Egypt as assistant to Francis Frith in late 1857. He joined the Photographic Society in 1864, and in 1880 served as a judge of its annual exhibition.
