End of the monopoly of the East Company created by Law. End of the monopoly of the East Company created by John Law.
Very rare first edition. This edict of Louis XV decrees the end of the monopoly of the Compagnia delle Indie in relation to international trade. The first article states: "" L'exercice du privilège exclusif de la Compagnie des Indes, aux Isles de France et de Bourbon, aux Indes, à la Chine & dans les mers au-delà du Cap de Bonne-espérance, evening et demeurera suspendu jusqu'à ce qu'il en soit, par Sa Majesté, autrement ordonné. "In 1719 John Law had merged the East India Company with the West Company, founded two years earlier for the colonization of Louisiana: it was thus created the new great Compagnia delle Indie, which absorbed all the minor privileged companies in itself, monopolized the trade of four continents and became - together with the issuing bank from the Law just founded - one of the two pins of the system that took the name from the Law. Surviving the disastrous ruin of the system, it continues to exist until 1769. The present decree attests its end. See A. Doneau du Plan, Hist. de la Comp. Franå. des Indes, Paris 1889; L. Pauliat, Madagascar sous Louis XIV. Louis XIV and the Comp. Des Indes orientales, etc., Paris 1886; H. Weber, La Comp. Franå. des Indes, Paris 1904.
