Title: Engraved document on parchment, signed by Thomas McKean as Governor of Pennsylvania, being a grant of land in western Pennsylvania Author: McKean, Thomas, Signer from Delaware Place: Lancaster, PA? Publisher: Date: August 13, 1806 Description: Engraved document filled out in ink, with paper seal affixed. 30x52 cm (11¾x20½"), matted and framed along with a portrait under plexiglass. Overall 45x79 cm (17¾x31"). Document granting land in the Sale Purchase, i.e. Armstrong County in western Pennsylvania, in the wake of the death in 1804 of statesman and land speculator William Bingham. Thomas McKean (1734-1817), signed the Declaration of Independence as a delegate from Delaware, and was later the President of the Continental Congress, but became governor of his native Pennsylvania, serving from 1799-1808.
