Images from the series "Views and Types of the Caucasus" (Ermakov) and others. 1870s-1880s. 18 albumen prints. Various sizes between 11 x 17 cm and 14 x 21 cm. Some with number and title in lower edge in the negative, most mounted to original studio board (slightly soiled) with photographer's name and title in gilt above/below image, a few with Georgian signature stamp. Dimitri Ermakov was active as a professional photographer as of 1868 and he travelled to various regions of Georgia, the Caucasus, Persia, Turkey and central Asia. Ermakov is the most important documentartist of Georgian life of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. A small part of Ermakov's negatives are in the collection of the National Museum of Georgia. The images show a Georgian princess, Persian and Georgian portraits, Armenian women in Persian costume, the monastery church in Etschmiadsin, the old city of Yerevan, view of Daria Gorge, view of Kislovdsk and a mosque in Yerevan. – Some light surface scuff marks, some slightly faded, otherwise in good condition.
