EULER, Leonhard (1707-1783). Institutionum calculi integralis. St. Petersburg: Imperial Academy of Science, 1768-1770. First edition of the final part of Euler’s classic trilogy on mathematical analysis. The Institutionum calculi integralis ‘exhibits Euler's numerous discoveries in the theory of both ordinary and partial differential equations, which were especially useful in mechanics’ (DSB). ‘This, like the similar treatise on the differential calculus, summed up what was then known on the subject, but many of the theorems were recast and the proofs improved’ (Ball). Norman 734. 3 volumes, quarto (255 x 207mm). With the blanks in vols. I and II and engraved folding plate in vol. III (repaired tear into text in F3 of vol. I, minor marginal repair in 3B4 of vol. II, small stain on title of vol. III). Contemporary marbled sheep, sides bordered in gilt, spines gilt.
