EUROPEAN PALACES AND CASTLES--An album containing 367 engraved plates on 350 sheets, 141 hand-coloured, 41 double-page, 8 double-page folding, some heightened with gold. [The Netherlands: 17th- early 18th-centuries.]. 2° (525 x 345mm). (Occasional light staining or marking, some plates with short, neatly-repaired tears, the majority trimmed to borders and mounted.) Early 18th-century mottled calf gilt, sides with central floral lozenges and panelled with rolls terminated in floral cornerpieces and crowns, spine gilt in and titled 'Lusthuysen en Gesigten' (extremities a little rubbed and scuffed, spine chipped at foot, short split on upper joint), gilt edges. Provenance : early manuscript annotations on the verso and margins of last 2 plates -- 'Vente [?]Schadry acheté par B n de [?]Draik' (inscription on front free endpaper) -- lot 4045, unidentified auction ([?Galerie Koller, Zurich, 26 May to 15 June 1970], loosely-inserted description stating that it was 'wohl für den jungen Karl VI. von Hapsburg [...] angefertigt'). A REMARKABLE COLLECTION OF VIEWS, MANY FINELY HAND-COLOURED AND HEIGHTENED IN GOLD. According to an earlier, inserted description, perhaps assembled for Karl VI von Hapsburg. The plates are organised by locale, and end with a small section of military subjects. The plates include: VERSAILLES: Veue et perspective du Château et Jardin ; Le Trianon ; Le Bassin de Latonc Amsterdam: De Lespine, [n.d.]. 2°, 3 hand-coloured double-page engraved plates, one by W.
