Figure en porcelaine blanche représentant Eros, Meissen, circa 1932-1948 A Meissen white figure of Eros, circa 1932-1948Modelled by Paul Scheurich seated on a tall pedestal with moss wearing a hat with plume and a quiver on his back, at the rear a mask blowing a plume of water up the pedestal, 37.4cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, incised model number A 1231, impressed former's mark 43, crossed swords and 'Weiss'FootnotesProvenance: Private Collection, Saxony Exhibited: Meissen, Museum der Meissen Porzellan-Stiftung, Paul Scheurich Porzellangestalter Zeichner Grafiker, 6 March 2020-21 February 2021 Scheurich modelled the figure of Eros in 1930, around the same time as Amazon with Cupid (Rafael 1995a, no. 44) and Europa and the Bull (lot 104). It was purchased for RM 1,800 and arrived at the manufactory in October 1930. Because of the economic situation, it was only produced in white from 1932; because Max Adolf Pfeiffer was forced to leave the manufactory in 1933, Scheurich did not supply a coloured version. He only did so in 1937 under the directorship of Wolfgang Müller von Baczko. However, the figure was not only not understood, it was misunderstood, and no sales are recorded in the records of royalty payments (Rafael 1995a, no. 43).
