Flaubert, Gustave Madame Bovary. Paris: Imprimerie Nationale for La Société du Livre d'Art, 1912 4to (10 3/4 x 7 3/4 in.; 274 x 196 mm). Half-title, lithographed frontispiece in two states, letterpress title within an etched vignette in three states, 52 etched illustrations in color, with an extra set of all colored etchings on velin with remarques, and an extra set of all the etchings in black and white with remarques, all by Adolphe Valcke after Henri Jourdain with an original watercolor signed by Jourdain bound in front which is reproduced on page 29; a few small spots on title, an occasional marginal spot. Contemporary brown crushed morocco, within a single blind-ruled border, a cluster of peppers and mint leaves comprised of inlaid yellow, red, light and dark green morocco enclosing a swirl of gold-stamped dots giving a pearl-like appearance, spine with similar decoration in 3 panels, and blind-stamped author and title in the other panels, gilt-decorated turn-ins, brown silk doublures and endleaves, edges gilt, by Charles Lanoé after a design by J. Chadel, in a fleece-lined slipcase, publisher's printed wrappers bound in.
