Frères Rochat A FINE AND VERY RARE VARI-COLOURED YELLOW GOLD, GEM STONE AND TURQUOISE-SET SINGING BIRD BOX FOR THE CHINESE MARKET CIRCA 1820 NO 433 • the brightly coloured bird with swivelling body, flapping wings, head, beak and tail, the bird rising from a bird shaped reserve, surrounded by gilt brass with trellis pattern, the aperture set with a border of gold chiselled ropes, the bird concealed beneath a vari-colour gold hinged oval panel, the panel chased with bouquet of flowers partly set with rose cut gem stones, the reserves further chased with foliate scrolls, the sides and base with wavy engine turned design • the movement stamped FR (Frères Rochat), rectangular brass, fusee and chain, cams and a whistle with sliding piston for different tunes of the song, hinged back compartment with a matching key to wind up the singing bird mechanism • the movement stamped FR (Frères Rochat) within an oval and numbered on the back plate LENGTH 75 MM
