(Some minor marginal spotting.) Contemporary German marbled stiff wrappers. Provenance : Prof. Ernst Mach (1838-1916), physicist and psychologist, with his book-stamp on the title. FIRST EDITION of Gauss's most important geomagnetic work. The first collaborative work between Gauss and Weber, this work "is an account of the measurement of magnetic force, containing the first systematic use of absolute units (distance, mass, time) to measure a non-mechanical quantity" (Norman).
