Nach dem Schock des Falkland-Krieges (1982) verbannte Horst Antes figurative Darstellungen fast gänzlich aus seinem Werk und widmete sich stattdessen Bildern von Zahlen und Häusern. Angelehnt an den bäuerlichen Haustyp der toskanischen «casa colonica» begann Antes zunächst mit einem Haus, gruppierte dann zwei bis hin zu ganzen Ansammlungen auf seinen Leinwänden. Die einfachen, fensterlosen, architektonischen Strukturen verweisen auf den menschlichen Lebensraum an sich, in dem wir gedeihen und unsere Lebenswünsche manifestieren.

After the shock of the Falklands War (1982), Horst Antes almost completely banned figurative representations from his work and instead devoted himself to images of numbers and houses. Inspired by the rural house type of the Tuscan «casa colonica», Antes began with one house, then grouped two and up to entire clusters of them on his canvases. The simple, windowless, architectural structures refer to the human living space itself in which we thrive and manifest our life's desires.
