(Margins of portrait lightly evenly browned, list of illustrations leaf lightly creased, some even light browning to text leaves, occasional light scattered spotting, mostly marginal, short marginal tear to text-leaf for plate XX without loss.) Modern half red crushed morocco, top edge gilt (two tiny spots to upper cover). FIRST EDITION of this important work, including outstanding portraits, particularly of the Zulus. The plates also include views of Cape Town, Hottentot Holland, Somerset West and Durban. 'The three large works by George French Angas the "Kaffirs", New Zealanders and South Australia are amongst the most important of the illustrated travel books of their period ...
