A COMPLETE SET, WITH A FINE LETTER FROM HUGNET TO BELLMER ASKING HIM TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROJECT. Bellmer ultimately agreed, and his 'Half-sisters' is card number 8 in the series. Hugnet opens by thanking Bellmer for sending his "superb color photos", undoubtedly those eventually published in Les jeux de le poupée . He continues "your undertaking, and the world you have created, are in every respect sensational". Hugnet discusses his planned publication of surrealist cards and lists those who have already agreed to take part: "Marcel Duchamp, André Breton Pablo Picasso Paul Eluard Max Ernst Yves Tanguy Mesens [who did not in fact contribute], Oscar Dominguez Dora Maar Roland Penrose Joan Miró Hans Arp Salvador Dali, Marcel Jean René Magritte Man Ray, Meret Oppenheim Jacqueline Breton and the signatory of this letter". Hugnet explains that each card will show a previously unpublished work that plays with the idea of the postcard. "A new unpublished doll photograph would be perfect and would be altogether different from what the others are proposing". Hugnet asks Bellmer to consider it immediately if he is interested, and asks him to send a glass negative without delay. Hugnet closes, "with impatience and affection", and asks in a post-script: "have you received La Septième face du dé , sent 10 days ago?" Cocoran Gallery, L'Amour fou: Photography and Surrealism , figs. 184, 190.
