The complete work is a compendium of works by several authors on fossils, gems and metals on most of which Gessner wrote commentaries. His own contribution is a treatise on fossils and gemstones. Each part (except the first one) has its own title page, some of which bear the date 1566. The whole volume was, however, certainly published in 1565 .
