HENRY VIII (1491-1547), King of England . Letter signed (at head, 'Henry R') to the Treasurer of the Chamber, Sir John Heron, Richmond, 22 November 1511, extending until Easter an obligation upon the London merchants Richard Gresham and William Cop[e]land to pay 3,000 crowns at 4s 3d the crown within 3 months, 'wherfore we woll and commaunde you to see that neither they ne any of theire suerties susteigne any losse or dammage, by force of the said obligacion, for lak of noon payment of the said money tyll Ester next commyng', in English, 11 lines written in a neat and regular secretary hand on vellum, one membrane, 215 x 270mm , address panel on verso.

Sir Richard Gresham (1494-1549), later Lord Mayor of London, was, like Copeland, a wealthy merchant dealing mostly in cloth and materials. Gresham supplied the King with arras, velvets and satins.
