First Edition. Original cloth in Dust Jacket. 7.5 x 11”, 121pp. Illustrated with 88 pages of White’s black-and-white drawings. Inscribed on front flyleaf: “To Evelyn with my warmest and sincerest regards, CHARLES WHITE ‘68” White, who began his artistic career painting murals for the Depression-era WPA (and designing the iconic poster for the ground-breaking 1940 American Negro Art Exhibition in Chicago) was a life-long Communist. Despite his unpopular political views and his preference for working in a black-and-white medium, his powerful and poignant drawings and paintings now rank with those of Jacob Lawrence and Romare Bearden Lot Amendments Condition: Very good.
