Caesare Augusto usq[ue] ad Theodosum excerpta. Eutropii de gestis Romanorum Lib. X. Pauli Diaconi libri VIII ad Eutropii historiam additi. Index reru[m] [...]. Annotationes eiusdem Egnatii [...]. Annotationes etia[m] Erasmi in Suetoniu[m], Eutropiu[m], et Paulu[m] Diaconum [...]. ( VENETIIS, IN AEDIBUS ALDI, ET ANDREAE SOCERI MENSE MAIO 1521). In-8° : [60]-320 lvs (rare small stains or foxing, marginalia, numerous on some lvs at the end, upper corner of the last 3 lvs repaired, good condition). Modern binding : dark calf, boards with blind fillets and gilt Aldine leaves in the central frame, ribbed spine with blind fillets continuing on the boards and 2 same gilt fleurons (slightly trimmed).
Second Aldine edition (1st Aldine ed. : 1516) but first containing the annotations of Erasmus, already published in the "Historiae Augustae Scriptores" in 1518, of this 4 works on Roman history by Suetonius, Aurelius Victor, Eutropius and his continuator Paulus Diaconus. Also with and index and commentaries of the Twelve Caesars by Giovanni Battista Egnazio, some quotes extracted from Suetonius translated in Greek and a biography of the historian. The editions of 1516 and 1521 "[...] were formerely the common manual of almost every one who wished to study the Roman history [...]" (# Dibdin).
