JEFFERSON, THOMAS and JAMES MADISON, Presidents . Partly printed document signed ("Th:Jefferson") as President, countersigned by James Madison as Secretary of State, Washington, D.C., 24 August 1801. 1 page, folio, 363 x 298 mm. (14 x 11½ in.), with original papered Great Seal of the U.S., accomplished in manuscript , PRINTED ON PARCHMENT, several small punctures (just catching a few letters text), yellowed, framed. As a reward for service in the Continental Army, President Jefferson grants former Army Captain Henry Whiting, an officer of "the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment," a tract of 1000 acres in the frontier region "between the Little Miami and Sciota Rivers" in the newly opened Ohio Valley territories.
