Engraved document signed ("Th:Jefferson") as President, countersigned by James Madison as Secretary of State, issued in Baltimore, 1 November 1804. 1 page, folio, 385 x 251 mm. (15½ x 10 in.), PRINTED ON PARCHMENT, accomplished in manuscript, with scalloped top edge, large papered Great Seal of the United States, accomplishments a bit pale, enclosed in gilt-edged mat and an attractive giltwood frame . A SHIP'S PASSPORT. Attractively engraved, with calligraphic heading "By the President of the United States of America," vignettes of an fully-rigged American sailing vessel at top and a detailed harbor scene with lighthouse and sailing vessels, requesting that the Brig Perseverance of New York to Pass "with her Company, Passengers, Goods and Merchandise without any hindrance, seizure of molestation..."
