Both pieces, which were created over the course of nearly thirty years, have been made using Jiří Kolář’s own technique of chiasmage. Chiasmage is not only a technique, but the very philosophy behind the work of the artist and the viewer’s relationship to the object. The object comes from the German collection of Helge Achenbach. Both objects are signed and dated on the bottom sections – chair: “2/10/69 JK”, apple: “JK 96”. Wood, paper, plastic. Height of chair: 91 cm; height of apple: 11 cm.
