KHWAJA HAFIZ RECITES HIS POETRY MUGHAL INDIA, CIRCA 1600 Gouache heightened with gold on paper, a young servant wearing brightly coloured robes and a red turban holds open a manuscript from which Hafiz, clad in a long blue coat, reads as he leans upon a long cane and holds a misbaha , laid down between minor red, gold and black rules on gold illuminated blue and white borders, identification inscription above, the reverse with a panel of gold naskh on deep blue ground, the upper right hand corner signed Rahmatullah, similarly laid down between minor gold and polychrome rules on gold illumianted buff card borders Miniature 5 3/8 x 3 7/8in. (13.5 x 9.9cm.); folio 11¾ x 7¼ (29.2 x 18.4cm.)
